Why Structured Self-Directed Learning
Traditional methods of language training focus on blocks of material to be learned in order to meet the objectives of a textbook or a test. Self-directed learning focuses on the needs of the individual learner enabling you to participate fully in your work environment in your second language.

How You Learn
As a self-directed learner, you will have many learning opportunities. You will meet with your language facilitator for your training sessions on a regular basis and learn to use your place of work as a place of language learning and maintenance.
Between your sessions with the facilitator, you will be expected to do some individual work to increase your language skills. Such work could include written assignments, oral practice, pronunciation drills, watching a television programme or speaking to colleagues. The number of hours of individual work per number of hours of private training is ideally 3:1.
The first step in the program is meeting with your language facilitator to establish your current level. Based on this assessment, your learning style, and your personal objectives, you will jointly develop a learning plan to achieve your goals. You will also determine the schedule and frequency of the meetings, respecting the demands of your workplace and your availability.
