ORAL PROFICIENCY SIMULATION PROGRAM

OVERVIEW

The Knowledge Circle Oral Proficiency Test Simulation Program will coach you on how to provide the PSC Evaluator with a sufficient linguistic sample to clearly demonstrate your abilities, a key feature of the new Test, so that there is no doubt in the Evaluator’s mind of your Level.

Our effective simulation program relies on several factors:

  • a knowledgeable and experienced Knowledge Circle coach who understands the Test, the differences between Level B and Level C structures and how to successfully simulate the Test
  • a coach who can provide constructive feedback and point out areas which need improvement
  • a series of simulations which are highly reflective of the demands of the Test
  • a coach who is able to identify the communications strategies the person being evaluated needs to employ to be successful, all while respecting the candidate’s natural communications style.

The program challenges the participant’s ability to give a sufficient linguistic sample so that the PSC Evaluator can easily determine the Level of the individual.

The coach’s feedback on the Oral Proficiency simulations also identifies the individual’s strengths and what they need to review to round out the edges (grammar, vocabulary, structures, etc.).

Based on the individual’s needs, the Knowledge Circle coach will select a series of simulations which will challenge the learner. If the individual is particularly challenged by a particular part, say Part 3, the coach will review how the learner needs to prepare, manage their time, the type of notes to take, what they need to communicate and how to decode the follow-up questions. After all, there is no use in spending precious time on those areas that the individual has mastered.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

The Oral Proficiency Simulation Program is geared to individuals who possess the linguistic skills for the desired target Level and who wish to:

  • Clearly understand the demands of the new Test
  • Understand and practice the communications strategies that are critical to obtaining the desired Level
  • Receive coaching on how to better respond to the Evaluator’s questions and formulate responses in their correct form

WHAT THIS PROGRAM IS NOT

If you do not possess the linguistic abilities for the target Level you are seeking, this program will not assist you in preparing for the Test.

Unlike the previous Oral Interaction Test, you cannot control the interview; the computer controls it. The evaluator cannot ask any question, they are essentially keeping to the script which was created upon the start of your Test. Since the Evaluators can’t deviate from the standardized method, candidates undertaking the Test need to know how to demonstrate the linguistic abilities of the target Level.

If you require language training or unsure if you have the linguistic capabilities of your Level, please speak with us before registering for this program. We don’t want to create unrealistic expectations.
